IN SPACE NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SLUG

From the 1989 space-boxing film ARENA.

WRESTLING WITH AN ANGEL

In LAUGH #29, Archie wrestles with an angel-- a pro wrestler called "The Turkish Angel"-- and gets creamed. Then Betty creams the Angel. The two girls then chase him away with brooms, which scene isn't worth reproducing.

WESTWARD HOS

Just Christine McIntyre winding up for one of the many slug-scenes in PUNCHY COWPUNCHERS.

WESTWARD HOS

If LEGEND OF FRENCHIE KING supplies the most glamorous western catfight, the 1975 GONE WITH THE WEST provides the most grueling one-- and maybe the most extreme in any genre.

WHEN TWO HEADS COME TOGETHER

Ginger Snapp provides yet another teen-comedy spoof of helpless femininity, from some issue of LAUGH.

Followed by double-trouble. I like the way Ginger's friendly enemy Bunny goes along with beating up Icky even though she doesn't have anything against him-- except maybe that he was so unresponsive during their date that she tried to "make sure he was alive." Though if that unresponsiveness came about because Icky really wanted to be with Ginger, then it MIGHT make a little sense.

A POLITICALLY INCORRECT SALUTE?

Though I do not possess and have not read COMIC BOOK PRICE GUIDE 8, I suspect that the kind of "special recognition" it contains would not pass political muster today. But for once, I might be just as interested in the articles as in, uh, everything else.

WESTWARD HOS

I've long been impressed with how often American westerns have shown women in atypical positions of power and/or aggression. I may not be able to find many actual screenshots of such depictions, but I'll take a shot and maybe mix in this or that comics panel wherever I please. Having said all that about American westerns, my first example actually comes from a country that wasn't big on making western films but did know how to conjure with feminine images, La Belle France.

From LES PETROLEUSES (it's an involved French pun, which got translated to THE LEGEND OF FRENCHIE KING over here), here's Claudia Cardinale giving Brigitte Bardot a facial.

Then Le Bardot returns the favor.
Then Michael J. Polland learns why you never get between girls giving each other a makeover.
